AN EASIER RIDE TO THE BEACH

Full Description:

Residents of the east side of San Juan Capistrano can now pedal on smoothly to the beach thanks to a new underpass, which allows bikers joggers and pedestrians to safely cross a busy rail line that has opened recently.

"This is the missing link in the city's trail system," said Nasser Abbaszadeh, city engineering and building director, about the bikeway that stretches from Dana Point's Doheny State Beach to Avenida Siega in San Juan.

A portion of the Vereda Bikeway near San Juan Creek had been closed off with chain-link fences and locks for decades due to safety concerns and users are forced to take a detour through city streets.
