News Details (Posted: November 22, 2006):

3 HOMES MAKE HISTORY

Full Description:

The homes in the Mission Hill-Mission Flats neighborhood – 31319 Andres Pico Road, 31491 La Calera Street and 31501 La Matanza Street – recently added to the city's Inventory of Historic and Cultural Landmarks.

According to a city evaluation, twenty-nine more homes in the area are potentially historic.

The land, originally inhabited by Acjachemen Indians, was passed to the Spanish Crown and was eventually moved onto private ownership. Most homes in the area were built between 1926 and 1955.

Homes included on the historic list could be eligible for a 15-60 percent property tax reductions through the Mills Act.

"They are one of a kind," Councilman Sam Allevato said. "It adds flavor to our community."
